Newham Ccouncil has just release a summary of workshops they held with the voluntary and community sector in the summer. The Report on Views from Newham Voluntary, Community and Faith Sector Organisations about the Procurement of an Infrastructure Organisation captures feedback from a number of organisations who participated in workshops and gave feedback. The report says, "The Council wants to set up and deliver a voluntary sector infrastructure organisation that ‘will support the achievement of a sustainable, confident and resourceful voluntary, community and faith sector (VCFS) that can collaborate with the council, and maximise asset base for the benefit of Newham residents.’ This is a clear remit and not easy for a Council to deliver; this co-production process is key to defining what this will look like and ensuring that the Newham VCFS feel they have an opportunity to be involved in shaping that. This report represents a key step in this process. Representatives from over fifty voluntary, community or faith organisations shared their hopes and aspirations for what an infrastructure body would do, how it would work and how the procurement process should be managed."
One Newham welcomes the focus Newham Council is giving to the voluntary and community sector and the recognition of the important role the sector plays in the live of Newham residents.
