International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination: Youth Standing Up Against Racism

Newham Council is marking International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination with an online event hosted by activist, poet, artist and curator Zita Holbourne, Co-Founder and Chair of Black Activists Rising Against Cuts (BARAK) UK. Speakers will include Althea Loderick, Chief Executive of Newham Council and Chitra Karve, Chair of Action For Southern Africa There will be a panel discussion moderated by Zita around the history of Newham's anti-racism activism with representatives from Newham Monitoring Project and Newham Asian Women's Project and some of Newham's young people. We will also be presenting a specially commissioned South African Township Jazz performance from renowned South African trumpeter Claude Deppa and his band, as well as visual art from Newham artist Ada Jusic and new spoken word from performance poet/beatboxer Marv Radio.
