Irons Supporting Foodbanks are a group of West Ham United fans and friends inspired by the work of other football fan foodbanks around the country. They told us about their work supporting a range of Newham organisations...
We collect food and cash donations for Newham Foodbank in Beckton, who supply 7 distribution centres in the borough, 7 days a week, and hand out several hundred 3-day emergency foodpacks every month to families in need. We are also working with other groups to improve conditions for vulnerable adults and children in the Newham community.
We are supported in our efforts by West Ham United FC, the WHU Foundation, LS185, London Legacy Development Corporation, Newham Council, the Met Police, Spire London East Hospital, Expedient Security, the Victoria Tavern in Plaistow and a large number of West Ham and football fans.
Last month we started our Advent Calendar and Selection Box Appeal for Newham Foodbank. We are trying to reach out to 6,000 local children whose families use the facility, and at the time of writing we are halfway towards our target. Alongside our efforts in supporting the Foodbank we are developing our relationships with local groups working with the homeless and children. We're pleased to be supporting Amy's Space and Lola's Place, the Newham Bookshop's Christmas Book Bundle Appeal, and the Recorder Christmas Toy Appeal with Ambition, Aspire, Achieve.
